The first look at Assassin's Creed 3

Ubisoft has shared the first screenshots from Assassin's Creed 3. You can click here to check them out. We can only hope for the time being the game is still planned for the Wii U and all of this coverage isn't for nothing.

That Wii U Price Rumor

There's a rumor about the price of the Wii U floating around and it seems legitimate because people are sourcing this site from Japan. But, the site they source is a regular, English-speaking blog about the Wii U who say: "Yeah, this is what our super-secret source has said".

Now, I love rumors. But I don't feel like the rumors about the price have any weight to them. I believe the site spreading the rumor is fabricating the rumor, and I don't believe Nintendo has decided on a price. $299, as the rumor suggests, may be a ballpark figure, but that's it.

It also makes no sense that, supposedly, the Wii U would cost 20,000 Yen in Japan, which is only $250 USD. But why would Nintendo charge less for their system in Japan? The economics don't make sense. Japanese people earn more money, and there's less of them compared to the United States, which is why the 3DS is more expensive in Japan. None of it adds up.

Basically, be skeptical. Be very skeptical.

The box art for Assassin's Creed 3

There is no clear confirmation that Assassin's Creed 3 is coming to the Wii U, but it appears very likely that it will be announced at some point. We may have to wait until E3 though. Even so, Ubisoft has revealed the box art for the game, shown above, and setup this countdown to wet you appetite.

Let's hope Ubisoft sticks to their plan of bringing the game to the platform though. It'd be a shame if all this hype didn't amount to anything.

Assassin's Creed 3 to be announced for the Wii U on March 5th?

Last year in July, it was confirmed that Assassin's Creed: Revelations would not come to the Wii U, but the game following Revelations would arrive on the platform. That game is very likely to be Assassin's Creed 3, which seems like it will be announced on March 5th.

Firstly, there was this message from the official Facebook page:

A major announcement from Assassin’s Creed is only days away.

What's more "major" than a new game announcement? Nothing. That's what.

But the exciting evidence is the above, leaked image of a poster from a Best Buy employee. It's not 100% confirmed if this is the case, but this image strongly suggests the game will be set in the American Revolution, which has been suggested in the past.

There was a second image sent to Kotaku suggesting the unveiling date of March 5th.

Even more rumors about specs for Wii U

A former journalist from France is suggesting that, based on what he's heard, the Wii U is twice as powerful as an Xbox 360. This is consistent with things we've heard in the past, but it also contradicts other things we've heard. In other words, treat everything with a grain of salt.

What's odd is that apparently a "very famous engine" (most likely Unreal Engine 3) shows only a minor frame-rate improvement over the Xbox 360 and PS3. This doesn't make much sense if the platform is meant to be twice as powerful, but it's a rumor, so maybe it's all nothing.

And so the rumor confusion continues.

Ubisoft praises the Wii U's controller for use in Ghost Recon Online

Hugues Ricour, a senior producer for Ghost Recon Online on the Wii U has said that touchscreen controller has "resonated" with them, and compared it to the "actual physical device that elite forces around the world carry with them to give them a tactical advantage".

He also said:

With Ghost Recon Online Wii U, it’s not just tactical, but also tactile – the Cross Com and its entire arsenal of cool new tech are now literally at your fingertips. Through the touch pad, our fans will always be connected at home with their social network and with the activities happening in the game. It’s always on, even if your TV is off.

This is definitely a game perfect for the Wii U's controller. Anything tactical, I'd say, is going to be amazing with the integration of the touchscreen.

"We'd like our next game to be on Wii U", says Team Meat

Tommy Refenes of Team Meat, the makers of Super Meat Boy and Binding of Isaac (which was rejected for release on the 3DS via the eShop), has shared that "If we can in the future, we’d like our next game to be on Wii U as well as everything else."

And while we may not receive exclusive content from them, they are talented developers, so it'd be nice to see their work on the Wii U.
